The province of Belluno offers an endless range of proposals for easy nature trails that can also be enjoyed with children. This route winds through the areas of Costa Solana and Case Biasetto, navigating one of the most beautiful and well-preserved stretches of the Feltre countryside, and partially overlaps with the thematic itinerary of Chiesette pedemontane.
Along the path, spectacular specimens of chestnut trees can be admired: a plant "imported" by the Romans but that, according to scholars, was present in Europe before the Quaternary glaciations (which ended 10,000 years ago). The glaciations would have progressively reduced the range of the chestnut, confining it to Asia Minor. Therefore, it would not be a "foreign" plant, but an ancient inhabitant of our woods, "brought back home" by the Romans after the glaciations forced it to seek refuge in warmer areas.
* Feltre, the vertical village. Nestled between high mountains and perched on a small hill, Feltre has been a hub of important communication routes for centuries. Its historic center offers an exciting discovery for the surprise of finding an art city of such high value in an alpine and Dolomitic context.
