Giro del Talvena

It is a circular path that reaches the top of Mount Talvena (not to be confused with the homonymous summit north of the Schiara group) through the trail CAI 512, descends from the north to meet the path 510 that leads back to Zoppa from where you return comfortably to the start.

From Tovena take a mule track uphill to the west with CAI 512 path and continue to a clearing with a hut where the path turns left into the woods. Pass the ruins of Casera Stalich and immediately after the fork for Schirada. Avoiding all deviations on the left, continue in the woods more and more steeply and with several hairpin bends until you exit the forest.

You pass a fork on the left for Casera Zoppa and after a turn to the right you go to the terminal plain from where a track that leads to the long and panoramic ridge terminal that after a short jump leads to the summit (there is the possibility of descending directly from the top without going back over the ridge and crossing the path that crosses the terminal clearing, but with greater difficulty on steep terrain).

The path 512 continues straight through the south side and going towards the panoramic north ridge (Tor ridge) overcoming a short exposed stretch equipped with metal cord. After some ups and downs on the ridge, the path leads downhill westwards on grassy blades and then crossing northwards to a valley where it bends decisively to the west (be careful not to follow the track that continues straight towards Forcella San Giorgio).

Continue downhill on wood until you meet a cart track (CAI 510) that becomes rolling and leads to Casera Zoppa placed at an obvious fork to the left. You leave the road following the cart track on the left that with various ups and downs crosses decidedly to the east, crossing towards the end a band of grassy clearings closed in the woods (Pian de Neve). Keeping to the left, finally, cross the path of ascent near Casera Stalich, and from here to the starting point.

Author’s tip: on the south side, Mount Talvena is full of paths that cross the path and that would allow combinations different from the one indicated shortening it also considerably. It is not recommended on very hot days for the strong heat of the sun in the long crossing of the open grassy blades of the top.
