The recent deforestation and cleaning of the paths concerned one of the slopes most affected by Hurricane Vaia.
This work has made it possible to restore the connecting paths between Alleghe and Caprile, which had been completely devastated by the fury of the events. The path we are describing here connects Caprile to Alleghe along a partly new route, the first section of which is in common with the Carducci path.
It runs at high altitude along the side of Mount Fertazza until it reaches the high hamlets of Alleghe and is characterised by the presence of the "Cascata della Spina".
It starts from Caprile, going up along the Carducci path to the centuries-old fir tree. From here, instead of descending to Pian, continue uphill on the little road through the woods, passing by "Val," "La Stangia," and "Pramarz" (where, at the fork, follow the signs for "La Spina"). You will then reach the panoramic point of "Pianat" and that of "Col de Pianat", followed by a few more bends in the mountain.
One of these is home to the Cascata della Spina waterfall: a small jet of water that gushes regularly from Monte Fertazza.
A comfortable bench invites you to take a break. Immediately afterwards, rocky outcrops, often hiding fossils, surround the little road that later becomes a path in the locality of "Pian de Costerla".
From here, there is a steep but short descent to a fork in the road, where, to the right, you can return to Pian and make a loop. To the left, continue to the hamlet of Fernazza above Piani di Pezzè. Our route, on the other hand, descends steeply and requires attention towards the hamlet of Piniè.
After crossing this characteristic village, there are many ways to reach Alleghe. We suggest a very scenic one that first continues briefly along the carriage road until Frena from where a path that branches off to the right descends to Coldemies and continues under the fountain of this hamlet towards the houses of Fontanive with the left-hand variant or Cordella, with the right-hand one.
From both, the last few metres lead down to the bottom of the valley along obvious paths. For the return to Caprile, it is also possible to use the bus service or the 4 km long cycle path along the Cordevole.
The use of a Tabacco map sheet 015 scale 1: 25000 is recommended.
