Since 2015, Poggio Pagnan Farm has expanded from the world of cultivation to that of breeding. The animals bred are ducks, hens but especially pigs, which live in the semi-wild state in the open air, in large fenced spaces, free to "wander" and eat the resources of nature. The following concept always remains that of organic, in full respect of animal welfare: the feed provided for the growth of the garments are certified GMO free and integrated with vegetables and organic corn grains, produced directly in the company. Once again, these animals contribute to the territory and its maintenance, with a view to a sustainability between man, animal and nature that surrounds it. Breeding is carried out for the purpose of marketing quality meat to private individuals and butchers (e.g. Sperandio butchers), as well as for the direct processing of the product.
In April 2017, in Col Pagnan, in the locality of Zottier, Azienda Agricola Poggio Pagnan planted about one hectare of vineyard. It also follows the line of natural and organic, in total respect of nature and the environment. For this reason, Tuscan chestnut poles have been chosen for the viticulture, which re-establishes in the territory an ancient production of the area also bringing a landscape component of remarkable beauty. As for the type of vine planted, to underline once again the strong organic belief of the company, were chosen innovative varieties for our areas, belonging to the category Piwi, renowned for their resistance to fungal diseases, so feared everywhere by winegrowers today.
In 2020 we have crowned our dream through the new project "Poggio Pagnan Lab". The old stables of Costante and Ferruccio, located on the ground floor of the building that houses the farmhouse rooms, have been transformed into our small cellar, where we are now able to independently process the grapes we produce in the first 4 wines identifying the Company: Pagnan, Costante, Riveta and Cornera. We wanted to keep as much as possible the historic structure of oak beams in laboratories and exposed stones in the tasting room. As in all the restoration interventions that characterize us, history and innovation are combined in a harmonious marriage of colors and materials.
Making agriculture is a real choice of life, which requires a commitment to 360 degrees, endless sacrifices, but above all a great planning. The starting point was the working of the land, to get to the realization of a much more ambitious project that includes the breeding of animals, viticulture, the farm with rooms and catering.... and much more, still stored in the folds of the dream. The first wish was to recover the agricultural traditions of Val Belluna, as well as to give better use to our land. We have recovered ancient crops such as vines, buckwheat, barley, hemp and many others, following the crop rotation, cycles and rest periods that the soil needs to regenerate and produce at its best.
What we believe in is the possibility of transmitting our passion to young and old, all based on a previous knowledge of our philosophy of work and agriculture, in a journey to the rediscovery of the scents and aromas of the past, that enrich our present with ancient stories. The basis for this is the direct contact between producer and consumer, with a view to a short supply chain that has the ultimate goal of bringing the customer closer to the reality of farming and the sharing of commitment and technique in the fields.
Our company is firmly based on the principles of organic farming, in total respect of nature, its cycles and its seasonality. We do not use any kind of insecticide or pesticide, preferring rather ancient natural methods for the treatment of diseases and parasites. Following the ideal of minimum tillage of the land, we constantly invest in the latest generation of machinery, also powered by renewable energy, minimizing the impact on soil and the environment.
