Already in 1802, the Ristorante alla Stanga began to be mentioned when the Zanella brothers took over the postal service from Bribano (Belluno) to Agordo on behalf of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Indeed, both the name and the architecture of the restaurant recall this historical passage: externally, the architectural lines that resemble stables can still be seen, where the exchange of the couriers' horses took place, and the very name of the restaurant reflects one of its original functions, that of being a toll collector for those passing through.
In more recent times, historic names in mountaineering, such as Cesare Tomè, Gottfried Merzbacher, or Bee and Miotto, recount various moments of their stops at the Ristorante alla Stanga during their epic climbs of the Dolomites.
